Diamond blade amphibian HERMAN BD-70 Hybrid
In everyday life, we have come to love products that make our lives easier or save time by combining two features. These include, for example, hybrid laptops or 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner.
In the technical world, however, we look at universally applicable products a bit differently. All-season tires are suitable for both winter and summer, but they do not excel in either. A universal saw blade or diamond blade may cut various materials well, but it doesn't perform excellently on any single one.
However, there are exceptions in this field as well. Undeniably, one of them is the diamond blade – a specialist for tiles and paving – which can be used for both cutting and grinding.

How it looks in practice today
In tiling work, it is often necessary to make a cut and then gently grind the sharp edge. However, tilers do not usually carry two different grinders or two different blades with them. So, to grind the edge, they use the same angle grinder and the blade they just used for cutting. The result of the work is not always ideal.
Tool requirements
What properties should a tool for both cutting and grinding tiles have so that the result is fast and aesthetic?
It must cut thinly and precisely, offer the possibility to grind edges immediately after finishing the cut, and, of course, be able to grind a tile corner into a curve.
We must not forget about lifespan – after all, we want the tool to last. It sounds unattainable, but it is possible.
Hybrid diamond blade
An unusual 2-in-1 solution that works: cutting and grinding with a single tool. The cutting part of the blade consists of a set of hexagons, regular six-sided shapes, interconnected into a form similar to a honeycomb.
The hexagons are made of diamond grains joined by a bond – all of this in a 1.6 mm thickness. Ideal for cutting tiles where a thin and precise cut is required.
They are placed in the annulus of the diamond blade, creating a significant "height" of the cutting part – up to 25 mm. This guarantees a large cutting surface and a long lifespan.
This surface is also intended for grinding edges – it won't happen that the blade slips and grinds more than necessary. And to make it perfect, a medium-hardness bond is used in production, ensuring a sufficiently fast cut.

So we have everything. Thin, precise, and relatively fast cutting, the possibility of grinding, and a long lifespan. And as a bonus – an excellent reputation for the tiler, because the tiles are cut accurately and beautifully.
One day even this blade will need to be replaced, but until then, a lot of water will flow – or rather, many square meters of tiles will be perfectly in place with ground edges.
Since significant heat is generated when cutting with diamond tools, we recommend a 2:1 ratio to maintain a long blade life. That is, cool the blade with 10 seconds of idle grinder operation after every 20 seconds of cutting.
