AXDC-1800: lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner on an 18V platform

Product Presentation

One of the useful supplementary machines built on the 18V platform is our new vacuum cleaner for dry and wet vacuuming. The essence of the design is a simple "bagless" system - the extracted polluted air is blown into a collection container where impurities remain trapped by a filter. It is equipped with a powerful BLDC motor and at maximum power it "runs full out" after approx. 22 minutes with an 18V/5Ah battery, which is approximately 4.5 min/Ah. With a 2Ah battery, it can therefore vacuum for about 9 minutes. It is not intended for vacuuming aggressive or flammable liquids.

In this category, let's not expect technological miracles and don't compare them with powerful industrial vacuum cleaners. We should appreciate what these vacuum cleaners offer – low weight, easy handling, quick connection to extraction systems, and simple maintenance.

Industrial vacuum cleaners have high power inputs and large collection containers – don't look for that here. We cannot want a large collection container and a small vacuum cleaner, nor a lightweight vacuum cleaner with a 2000W motor. Let's decide what we want – and mainly – what we need. This vacuum cleaner is not for extracting a large volume of water when drilling with a diamond core bit, nor for vacuuming an industrial hall. However, it is ideal for quick connection to the extraction systems of grinders, hammer drills, jigsaws or circular saws, or for conveniently vacuuming a workbench in the workshop or a car in the garage.

HEPA filter

The HERMAN AXDC-1800 vacuum cleaner is equipped with a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) filter. These filters are used in modern vacuum cleaners to trap dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and other airborne particles. They are especially useful for allergy sufferers and people with respiratory problems because they are capable of capturing even very fine particles. Interestingly: the HEPA filter was originally developed by NASA to protect personnel from radioactive contamination.

Battery

We have that freedom because of the battery; we don't need to carry a power cable and search for a socket or use an extension cord. We have grown accustomed to convenience – after all, for the sake of convenience, we pay for chargers and batteries, and in doing so, we must be aware that a battery – whether we use it or not – has a limited lifespan and one day we will have to buy a new one anyway. And once we've decided to vacuum, let it be simple.

Suction and airflow

These two parameters are most frequently cited for products in this category. It should be noted that in a "good vacuum cleaner," these parameters are in balance – the manufacturer should therefore seek a balance between them, and neither of them should be "out of whack." Higher suction (vacuum) allows for more thorough vacuuming – it "unsticks" small particles from the surface more easily. A larger airflow is, in turn, important when vacuuming bulkier and heavier debris.

Suction is given in kilopascals (kPa - the main unit in the SI system), but you can also find this data in millibars (mbar). The conversion is simple: 1 kPa = 10 mbar. Airflow can be found in liters per hour or liters per minute (l/h or l/min), so for potential comparison, we can easily convert the data.

What kind of hammer drill do you need?

The main task of a drill is drilling. You can probably imagine how it works. The drill bit, clamped in the chuck, rotates, removing material and drilling a hole the diameter of the drill bit. This is the procedure for drilling into soft materials. However, if you need to drill a hole in a building material, such as brick, concrete or stone, you need a hammer drill. This is because hard material must first be broken down and then drilled out.

Tail saw – an underrated tool

The key elements of the tail saw are the guide slide (1) with the support foot. The guide slide can be extended to a certain extent and fixed in the set position with the locking button (2). With this setting, the foot not only allows you to change the reach of the saw blade, but it rests on the cut material when cutting and prevents the saw from pushing away from the cut or pulling towards it during its movement.
